Alexander H. Gerhold III

Alexander H. Gerhold III, age 68, of New Orleans, Louisiana passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, September 5, 2021. Alexander was born July 10, 1953 in New Orleans, Louisiana to Dorothy K. and Alexander H. Gerhold Jr. He graduated from Abramson High School in 1972. Alex was a retired police officer and owner of Security Consultants Inc.

Alex’s hobbies included his wife and children, but most importantly his four grandchildren, Alex V, Addie, Ellie and Graham. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson with the Blue Knights, camping with family and driving his 1949 Red Chevrolet pickup truck to the yearly Cruising the Coast event in Mississippi, attending various car shows and cruising the Lakefront in his hot rod. He encouraged his children to be successful entrepreneurs in different business ventures. Alex was a caretaker to all who would give the last dollar out of his pocket to help his loved ones and even a stranger. Alex could strike up a conversation with almost anyone, anywhere at any time and leave them with a laugh or smile. When Alex walked into the room, his strong presence and loud voice was immediately recognizable by all. Alex and his wife loved to host large parties in their backyard that many will never forget. Alex not only had three children, but also held a special relationship with his many surrogate sons and daughters who were raised at Spring Lake, “The Kool-Aid House”, for many pool parties and crawfish boils along with any other reason to have a party.

Alex is survived by his wife of 46 years, Janeene Collins Gerhold; his sons, Alexander H. Gerhold IV (Tram) and Elliot J. Gerhold (Michelle); his daughter Lacey J. Gerhold; his sisters Joyce Hoover (James), Sharon Gallagher (Dennis), Dewanna Meyers (Ronnie), Beverly Jones (Mike), Carol Seruntine (Steve), Dottie Gerhold and his brother Robert Gerhold (Charlotte); his grandsons, Alexander H. Gerhold V and Graham Gerhold; and his granddaughters, Adaline Gerhold and Ellie Gerhold.

Alex was preceded in death by his father Alexander H. Gerhold Jr.; his mother Dorothy K. Gerhold and his father-in-law Earle Joseph Collins (Mary Jane).

Alex leaves behind many in-laws of the Collins Clan who were near and dear to his heart, Joan Wilkinson (Jack), Michael Collins, Cathy Skiles (Doug), Patricia Neames (Roe), Patrick Collins (Deceased), Kevin Collins, Mary Jane Crist (Jerry), along with countless nieces and nephews.

A visitation for Alex will be held Saturday, September 11, 2021 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124. A funeral mass officiated by Fr. Tom McCann will take place on Saturday, September 11, 2021 at 1:00 PM with a committal service to follow.
