

Alfredo Hernandez passed away at his New Orleans home on Friday, October 11, 2024 after battling with Parkinson’s disease. Born Alfredo Victor Hernandez Guerra on May 6, 1943 in Havana, Cuba to parents Jose´ and Angela Hernandez, Alfredo was the middle child of their three sons. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose´ and Angela, and his younger brother, Mario Hernandez.
After leaving Cuba with his family to come to the United States, he attended Brooklyn Automotive Evening Trade School and obtained a diploma as an auto mechanic in 1971. He then attended Mercy College in the Bronx and earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Psychology. He became an American Citizen in 1978. After moving to New Orleans from New York, Alfredo began his employment at the New Orleans International Airport for over 20 years reaching the level of Supervisor until he retired in 2009.
He enjoyed classic cars and loved seeing them restored. He loved to drive around to see new places and get ideas for home improvements. When the younger grandchildren were born, he relished being an Abuelo and spending time with them and his wife going to the park to feed ducks, getting beignets and most importantly, taking many photos and videos of their adventures. He was an excellent conversationalist and enjoyed keeping updated with the most recent political news.
Alfredo is survived by his wife, Vivian Lopez Hernandez, of 19 years and many more years of friendship; his older brother, Jose´ Hernandez; his stepdaughters, Jennifer (Steven) Benvenutti, Michelle (Kenneth, Jr.) Blanke and David (Lisa) Begault; his grandchildren, Amanda, Katherine, Emily, Cody, Aiden, Ben, Sofia, Kenneth III, Noah, Alex, David Jr and Jack; and his great-grandchildren, Ariana, Jaxon, and Olivia.
Funeral services remembering Alfredo will be held at Lake Lawn on Thursday, October 17, in a private ceremony for family and close friends.
