

GREVEMBERG Mr. Alvin Charles "Chip" Grevemberg, Jr., age 72 years, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at St Tammany Parish Hospital in Covington, LA. Mr. Grevemberg was the beloved son of the late Alvin Charles Grevemberg, Sr. and Patricia Saxon Grevemberg, brother to the late Lyle Saxon Grevemberg Matthews, and uncle of Jude B. Matthews and Noah N. Matthews. Mr. Grevemberg's education began at Holy Name for grammar school, then Sam Barthe for high school, class of 73. He received his Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of New Orleans. He worked as a hydrogeologist in both private and public sectors. Chip began playing drums as a child and went on as a young man to play in a number of bands, most notably The LIFT which performed in the Greater New Orleans, Pensacola, and Atlanta areas. An album was produced in 1974 and is considered a classic in progressive rock circles. Chip also began sailing as a child at his dad's side at the Southern Yacht Club of New Orleans. He joined the Southern Yacht Club as a Junior Member in 1972 and continued being a member for 53 years. As a junior and senior member, he was an award-winning racer in the Rhodes 19 and Handicap class for most of his life. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME CHAPEL, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Saturday, June 6, 2026, at 1:00 pm. Visitation will begin from 11:00 am until 01:00 pm. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
