Anna Margaret Masters passed on peacefully June 10, 2023, in Mandeville, Louisiana. She was born on April 28, 1923 to Thomas and Anna Pace Dickinson in Dothan Alabama. Later, she moved to Montgomery Alabama where she graduated from Sidney Lanier High School. A few years later she married Walker Menne, and moved to Richland, Michigan where she lived until 1970. They had (2) children Keith and Leslie. While in Michigan Margaret or “Peg,” as she was nicknamed, was an active member of the Crossroads Ladies Organization, also a founding member and organizer of the Richland Art Fair which continues to this day.
In 1970, Margaret relocated to New Orleans Louisiana, and married her childhood friend Wiley Masters. Wiley and Margaret loved New Orleans, thoroughly enjoying showing guests the sights and sounds of the “Big Easy.” They were diehard New Orleans Saints fans. Margaret and her friends were very proud “Breezy Girls.” Wiley preceded Margret in death in 2010.
Margaret’s passion for needle work was boundless. Knitting, sewing, quilting, and various styles of embroidery were a big part of her life. Active in local quilting groups, she enjoyed sharing her love and knowledge of these crafts. Undoubtedly, most of you reading this have received pieces of her handiwork throughout the years. She also loved the WWII museum, and visited it often.
In her 90s, she signed up with Silvers Sneakers Zumba and Yoga classes through Humana. She loved the activity and fellowship until the end of her 100 years with us, dancing and counting her blessings. She was featured on local New Orleans TV channels WWL and WDSU along with national news coverage on Good Morning America (GMA3). In 2021, she was entered in a nationwide contest through Humana and was voted “Silver Sneakers Member of the Year.” Her mantra was always: “Count Your Blessings, keep smiling and keep moving.” She never understood why people were drawn to her, or why they thought she was amazing! It was obvious though, to those who knew her. She was vibrant, quick witted, energetic, and maintained a youthful, positive attitude. She was a real “Fireball,” a true “Dancing Queen.”
Margaret is survived by her son Keith (Sally), daughter Leslie (Steve), grandchildren Hanna (Sam), Luke (Miranda), and great grandson Weston.
The family would like to give special thanks to the incredible staff at the Windsor Senior Living Community who gave her and our family incredible care and support. Also, Interim Hospice for being our Angels at the end.
To each and every one of the beloved friends she made through Zumba and Humana, especially Deanna Palmisano dedicated instructor and beloved friend, as well as her long-time best friend and next-door neighbor Judy Brockman, thank you. A celebration of life will be held at the Event Center of Lake lawn Funeral Home on Friday, November 24, 2023 from 10 AM - 12 PM.
