Arthur "Sonny" Richard, Jr., 97 peacefully passed away on June 27, 2021. He was born on February 8, 1924 to Arthur Sr. and Margaret Parr Richard in New Orleans, LA. In 1951, he married Cecile Lemoine and they went on to have four children, Margaret, Marilyn, Mark and Marlon. He was a resident of New Orleans most of his life before residing in Slidell, La. with his beloved wife, Cecile, in 2006.
Sonny was a veteran of WWII, having served as a Navy nurse. Not long after being discharged, he attended Delgado Community College in New Orleans, LA where he received his Aircraft Mechanic's License. He was employed by Pullman Aviation and Continental Oil Company prior to his 28 years of service with Chevron Oil Company as a helicopter and airplane mechanic. He proudly earned his pilot's license and enjoyed flying his plane in his younger years.
Sonny loved music and was musically inclined, having played the guitar, organ, and harmonica. He was a huge fan of The Lawrence Welk Show and never missed an episode. Sonny was a skilled woodworking craftsman and built several musical instruments including dulcimers and a banjo. He once built a four sided fireplace mantel that would rival any constructed professionally, and there was nothing mechanical he couldn't fix.
He is preceded in death by his devoted wife of 54 years, Cecile Lemoine; his grandson, Mark Richard Jr.; and his parents, Arthur Sr. and Margaret Parr Richard. Sonny is survived by his children, Margaret Campo (Larry); Marilyn Jackson (Patrick); Mark Richard (Kim); Marlon Richard (Lynne); his grandchildren, April Campo (Anthony Canzoneri); Warren Campo (Michael); Amanda Goldberg (Josh); Katie Richard (Shane Verrett); and his great-grandchildren, Adeline and Graham Goldberg, and Grayson Richard.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans on Monday, July 5 2021 at 12:00 p.m. The visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. The internment will follow the chapel service at All Saints Mausoleum.
