
Carolyn Leontine Nicholas Baumann, a retired educator, departed this life on Thursday, February 18, 2016 at the age of 72, after a long battle with cancer. Daughter of the late Rachel Haynes and Forest Nicholas, she was a native and lifelong resident of New Orleans until Hurricane Katrina, when she relocated to Charlotte, North Carolina, until her death. A graduate of McDonogh 35 Senior High School in 1962, she furthered her education receiving a Bachelor’s degree from Livingstone College in Salisbury, North Carolina and a Master’s degree from Boston Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Her passion for education was shared with students across the country in Boston, Massachusetts, Houston, Texas and New Orleans, Louisiana. Carolyn also taught in higher education at Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas, the University of New Orleans, Southern University at New Orleans and Delgado Community College in New Orleans. She was also a Retired Teacher of the Orleans Parish School System where she taught for years at Phillips and Gregory Junior High Schools, John McDonogh and Abramson Senior High Schools. She was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated serving as a charter member of New Orleans Suburban Alumnae and the charter Advisor of Nu Mu Citywide Chapters. She leaves to cherish her memories to her loving daughter, Bianca S.K. Baumann, beloved Chow Chow, Bamboo and a host of family and friends. Family, friends and members of DST are invited to a celebration of life on Thursday, February 25, 2016 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., NOLA at 12noon.
