

Catherine Burkhart Healey, 96, passed away at her residence on Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Born in Athens, Georgia to the late Dr. Walter C. Burkhart and Pearl Pennington Burkhart. She was married to the late Dr. Charles S. Healey. Catherine is survived by her sister of Elizabeth Ann Burkhart of Atlanta, GA. Catherine is also survived by her two sons and their wives; Charles S. Healey II (Mary), and William Walter Healey (Cathy). She started her career in 1942 as case worker Children’s Home of New Orleans, volunteer worker ARC 1943-1950, Supervisor and director of Maternity Home and Adoption Services, Protestant Home for Babies, New Orleans 1950-1960, Supervisor of case work, Methodist Home Hospital New Orleans, 1960-1963, Director of Community Volunteer Service, Social Welfare Council, New Orleans, 1963-1969, Sub profit officer, GA State Dept of Family and Children’s Services, 1969-1971, Coordinator, Older Americans Volunteer Program, ACTION, Region 5, Atlanta, GA 1972-1974, Recipient, Special Commendation Award, ACTION 1975, Past Member of Academy of Certified Social Workers; National Association of Social workers; GA Education Council; GA Gerontology Society; Psi Chi Chapter, Phi Mu Episolon, Author of many scientific and professional journal articles on Social Welfare, BS Math and Chemistry, U of GA, Athens, Ga 1939, Masters, Social Welfare, Tulane University, 1941. She was a member of the NARFE and a longtime member of Metairie Garden Club. Catherine will be forever missed by all her family, including her five grandchildren, Thomas Kevin Healey, Colleen Healey-Thomas, Catharine Ann Healey-Domenick, Clinton Gene Healey-Magherini, and Carden K. Healey-Cole in addition to nine great grandchildren and friends. A special thanks to Karen Kennedy, Miriam Mautino, Notre Dame Hospice for all their care and support.
