Catherine Maher Richard, 61, passed into eternal life on March 2, 2025 at a hospice facility in Houston, Texas. She was born in New Orleans, LA on May 10, 1963 to James and Ellen Maher. She obtained her Associate’s Degree in Radiologic Technology from Ochsner Health System then her Bachelor of Science from McNeese State University.
After a career change in 1995, she spent 17 years teaching in the Archdiocese of New Orleans at Archbishop Shaw High School and Brother Martin High School. She then spent another 10 years dedicating her time and talents to the students at St. Louis Catholic High School in Lake Charles. Retirement could not call her away from teaching; she spent the last years of her life substitute teaching at Episcopal Day School in Lake Charles and The Galloway School in Friendswood, Texas. She loved all of her students and found great joy in watching these children grow.
Those left to cherish her memory are husband, Patrick, children Melinda Slaughter (Mike), Greg (Sydney), grandsons Landon and Luke, and her siblings, James, Mike (Julia), Kelly (Sandy), Mary Fulmer (Eric), Ellen Hayes (Kenneth), and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Saturday March 8, 2025 at 10:00 am followed by funeral services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, Catherine requested donations made to Episcopal Day School and the St. Louis Catholic High School Foundation in Lake Charles.
