Charles Stephen Saylor known as Steve to his family and Charlie to his friends, passed away on Thursday, May 26, 2016, at the age of 60 after a courageous fight. He spent most of his adult life in St. Bernard Parish where he was an avid fisherman. After graduating from Chalmette High School, he went to LSUNO and earned a degree as a medical technologist. He later went to Xavier University to earn his B.S. degree and became a pharmacist for Eckerd Drugs and CVS Pharmacy for many years. He was a fan of LSU and the New Orleans Saints. He was always upbeat and had a zany side to him as he got creative at Mardi Gras and also did a stint as one of the Blues Brothers. He never met a stranger and was supported to the end by family and friends.
Charlie is survived by his parents Charles M. and Joyce E. Saylor of Metairie; son Vincent F. Saylor (Brittany) of Morris, AL; brother Michael B. Saylor (Janette) of Baton Rouge; sister Deborah S. Carey (the late John G. Carey) of New Orleans. He is also survived by his nephews Craig M. Saylor (Erin), Scott M. Saylor (Caitlyn), and Jeffrey J. Carey (Stephanie) and niece Stephanie L. Carey. The family would like to thank his friends Leslie Raybon, Mike Cimino, Dwain and Nancy Waguespack, Phil McKenzie, and Lori Sander. The family also thanks Compassus Hospice and especially Ms. Allyce Lemon.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans at 12:00pm on Friday, June 3, 2016. Visitation will begin at 10:00am.
