She was born on May 6, 1948 in New Orleans to Joseph and Doretha Grisaffi. She graduated high school from Ursuline Academy, studied music at Loyola University, and in adulthood went on to earn her BA in Music History from the University of New Orleans.
Charlotte built a career as a piano tuner and technician, one of few women in her field. She was a Registered Piano Technician with the Piano Technicians Guild, and worked with legendary New Orleans musicians such as Allan Toussaint and the Marsalis family. In her free time, she loved gardening, studying Italian, traveling, cooking, and ballet.
Charlotte had an open heart and an open home, frequently caring for ailing or aging family members and often “adopting” friends into the family. She loved animals and cared for many over the years. She was gregarious, tenacious, and made instant best friends with everyone she met.
Charlotte was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 50 years, Michael Edward Eschman; her parents, Joseph and Doretha Grisaffi; her brother, Michael Grisaffi; and other dear family members and friends. She is survived by her loving and devoted daughters, Kristen Eschman and Embee Breedlove, as well as by many friends and loved ones.
The family would like to give special thanks to Colleen Coogan, Lillian Wegmann, Carol Delaforet, and Lea Ellison for their decades of friendship, love, and support.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Gathering celebrating Charlotte’s life on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 4-7 p.m. at her home.
