Mr. Saporito graduated high school from New Orleans Academy in 1969. He received his Bachelors of Science from Tulane University followed by a Masters Degree in Epidemiology from the Tulane School of Public Health and a Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of New Orleans.
Mr. Saporito began his career at McMoran Oil and Gas in 1978. In 1984, following the merger of McMoRan Oil and Gas and Freeport Minerals, he relocated to New York as Director of Investor Relations. The following year Freeport-McMoRan Inc. relocated to New Orleans where he returned as well. He then spent twenty-two years in various positions with Freeport, eventually retiring as a Senior Vice President and Treasurer. However, retirement was never a word he embraced. He then joined Hibernia Southcoast Capital as Director of Research. Due to his extensive background in oil and gas, he co-founded Beryl Resources LP, an oil and gas company, in Houston, Texas, which would be sold four years later. Next he served as Deputy Commissioner for Finance and Development for the Louisiana Board of Regents, overseeing the budget for all higher education in the State of Louisiana. His most recent endeavor was an affiliation with Beau Box Commercial Real Estate in New Orleans. He established a reputation for excellence in financial administration and communications throughout his career.
Craig was actively involved in the New Orleans community. He contributed his knowledge and experience by serving on the boards of several prominent organizations, including the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, Catholic Charities, the Louisiana Superdome and Exposition District (LSED), and Mount Carmel Academy. He played an integral role in the re-opening of Mount Carmel Academy following Hurricane Katrina. Mr. Saporito was also a member of the New Orleans Country Club, The Houstonian Club, the Crillo Club (Krewe of Achaens), the Krewe of Osiris and the Rotary Club of New Orleans.
Craig was a fun-loving, caring man with a huge heart and an even bigger soul. He took a genuine interest in everyone he met, and had a way of making every person feel as though they were the most important person in the room. He leaves a large legacy of faith, compassion, discipline and love.
He had a true love of all music. As a collector of music he amassed an extensive Beatles collection that has its own storage room to this day!
