David Craig Bouza left this world on February 11, 2025, at the age of 81. Born on September 5, 1943, David grew up in Flint, Michigan, and graduated from St. John Vianney High School. In 1972, he moved to New Orleans, where he built a successful career in the shoe industry, eventually becoming the owner and operator of Sunbelt Footwear from 1979 to 1985. His entrepreneurial spirit led him to found Strength Systems Inc., which he owned and operated from 1985 until 2010.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, David was a passionate outdoorsman with a deep love for bluewater fishing and boating. He never missed an opportunity to compete in tournaments, and his enthusiasm for the sport was unmatched. He was an active member of both the New Orleans Big Game Fishing Club and the Baton Rouge Billfish Association. When not on the water, he enjoyed woodworking and hunting, always finding joy in the craftsmanship of his hobbies.
David’s greatest pride and joy were his family. He is survived by his beloved children, Micque Voges, Kelli Manville (Braton), Eric Bouza (Lynn), and Kevin Bouza; fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his dear sister, Lorraine Bridges. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Blanche Bouza, and his beloved daughters, Karleen and Jodi Bouza.
Family and friends are invited to honor and celebrate David’s life at St. Philip Neri Church, 6500 Kawanee Ave, Metairie, LA 70003. A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, February 21st at 11:00 AM.
David lived a full and vibrant life, leaving behind a legacy of adventure, hard work, and most of all, love for the University of Michigan - “GO BLUE“ and an ice cold Bud Light! He will be deeply missed, but forever remembered in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
