Deacon Marty Martinez

Deacon Wilbur “Marty” Martinez passed away at his home in Hammond on Wednesday, February 21, 2018. He was 86 years old. Marty was the beloved husband for 65 years of Lucille Margaret O’Donnell Martinez; loving father of Paul Martinez (Brenda), Kenneth Martinez (Lynne), Gary Martinez (Leslie), and Karen Martinez Godelfer (Eric); grandfather of Jonathan Martinez (Rebecca), Adam Martinez (Marly), Scott Martinez (Lauren), Kristen Martinez, Jeffrey Godelfer, Abigail Godelfer, and the late Henry Martinez; great-grandfather of Patrick, Benjamin, William, Julia, Karsyn, and Caroline.

Deacon Marty was ordained on December 21, 1991. He was a parishioner of St. Louis King of France for 48 years, and of St. Joseph Church in Hammond since 2012. Marty enjoyed working the school fairs and served in the following ministries: Cub Scouts, Men’s Club, Altar Society, Pastoral Council and R.C.I.A. He was a Lector and Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, and was a recipient of the St. Louis Medallion in 1973.

Deacon Marty defines the word gentleman. His patience, calm demeanor and generosity will be sorely missed.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 10:00AM. A visitation will be held at the funeral home beginning at 9:00AM. Interment will take place at All Saints Mausoleum.
