

Dolores (Del) Kelley Lozes, age 88, died Saturday, March 7, 2015 at Vista Shores Assisted Living. She was a loving and devoted wife of 60 years to her husband Fred, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Survived by her children Kathryn (Kit) Lozes Landry and husband Dr. Edmund C. Landry Jr., and Kelley Lozes Hunter Ellis and husband Dr. George S. Ellis, Jr. Grandmother of Kelley Landry Doiron (Luke), Liz Landry, Grant Landry, Caroline Landry, Katherine Hunter Chenier (Jeff), Patrick Hunter (Melissa), Richard Ellis (Adrienne), Reeves Ellis Samaha (Michael). Great grandmother of Luke Doiron, Jr., Sam Doiron, Benjamin Doiron, Asher Doiron, and Rebecca Doiron.
Preceded in death by husband Frederick Louis Lozes, Jr., son Frederick (Ric) L. Lozes, III and parents John Edward Kelley and Dolores Corr Kelley.
Del was born in Oak Park Illinois on September 21, 1926. In 1939 she moved to New Orleans and remained a life long resident. She graduated from McMain High School, from Newcomb College elected to Phi Beta Kapp a (1947), and from Tulane University with a Masters in Latin and Greek. A devoted teacher in the Orleans Parish School system for 30 years, Del loved her students and was elected Teacher of the Year for Orleans Parish in 1991. As a volunteer at WYES, Del and her husband, Fred, were Chairmen of Wine Night. She also volunteered at the New Orleans Museum of Art for several years and served on the board in 1976. She was a member of the Orleans Club and The Fine Arts Club serving as secretary. An active member of St. Dominic’s parish, Del was a daily communicant. She loved her grandchildren with all her heart and spent many hours enjoying their company. Del had a passion for travel with her husband and friends, a source of great joy for all. She never met a stranger and her smile lit up a room. She was beloved and will be missed by all the lives she touched and all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Tuesday March 17, 2015 at noon.
