Don attended Mater Dolorosa elementary school, Jesuit high school and Loyola University earning a B.S. in Physics. He served in the Army and the Army reserves after college. He worked for a short time at Shell Oil Corporation before starting his own business, Educational Electronics Corporation. Educational Electronics served the archdiocese churches and schools as well as public schools across south Louisiana and beyond. He was an active parishioner of St. Rita of Cascia Catholic Church in Harahan for many years, serving as president of the parish council, lectoring and administering holy communion. He was also a member of the Dad’s Dads Club (DD Club) for many years. He received the Order of St. Louis IX medal from the N.O. archdiocese for his role in building the current rectory for St. Rita. He enjoyed spending his time playing tennis at Riverside Country Club and then after retirement at Colonial Country Club. Fishing was a passion of his. With young children, he’d bring his family to camp at Fairview-Riverside State Park, or Toledo Bend KOA, and spend his days fishing in his flat bottom boat. After building a Mississippi fishing camp, his weekends were spent putting out, or picking up crab traps, trawling for shrimp, or fishing from his camp dock. Late in life, he enjoyed Friday morning mass then breakfast with church friends, and beating the one arm bandit at the casinos, he had a system. He also spent a lot of time gardening. Cucumbers, tomatoes and okra were his go to plants. He was especially proud of his 4 satsuma trees. Many satsumas found their way to local and city food pantries.
