Donald Franz McClure, age 88, passed away on September 30, 2025. Born in New Orleans to the late Allen and Isabell McClure, he was the third of seven boys and the last surviving McClure son. He was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Kelley; and his brothers, Robert “Mickey” (Rosalie), Allen “Pudgy” (Sadie), Patrick (Ron), Wayne, Gerry “Mike” (Françoise), and Darryl.
Donald is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Carolyn; his children, Shannon Hewitt (Adam), Brian (Kimberly), and Sean Nolan (Gregory); and seven grandchildren who brought him immense joy: Christian, Catherine, Caroline, Clare, Kate, James, and Clark. He is also remembered fondly by many nieces and nephews.
A proud Jesuit High School alumnus from the class of 1955 and graduate of the University of New Orleans, Donald was a starter on the 1953 state championship football team and a letterman in football, basketball, and track and graduated with the highest academic honors for a multi-sport letterman. Known to friends as “Turk,” he remained a passionate sports fan throughout his life. He loved to run, bike, play tennis, and take long walks, staying active well into his later years.
Hardworking and selfless, Donald began his days for decades throwing a newspaper route from 3 a.m. to 6 a.m., seven days a week, before heading to work in accounting to oil and diving companies and later the University of New Orleans. His tireless efforts provided his children with Catholic school educations and the foundation for all four children to receive college degrees. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
Donald relished family gatherings, a good Guinness with a slice of pizza, and the opportunity to cheer on his children and grandchildren in all of their pursuits. He was endlessly proud of their successes.
He will be remembered for his strength, devotion, humility, and unwavering love— a legacy that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at The Chapel of the North American Martyrs at Jesuit High School. Visitation begins at 11:00 a.m., with Mass to follow at 1:00 p.m.
