

.Donald Albert Rowan, Sr., 77, passed away in his sleep on Tuesday, March 24, 2015 in the early a.m., after spending a weekend with all of his family. He is the son of Margery Fanz Rowan and Albert T. Rowan, Sr., both deceased. He leaves behind, to cherish his memory, his loving wife of 54 yrs., Sandra Luscy Rowan, his children, Donnie A. Rowan, Jr. (Michelle), Darren M. Rowan (Kathy), David P. Rowan (Joy), Kathleen Rowan Adams (Ron), and Sandy Rowan Dischner (Derek). He’s also survived by his brother Albert T, Rowan, Jr. and sister, Mary Ann Rowan Roche. His most cherished loves were his grandchildren, Donya (Jeremy), Lynsey, Courtney, Michael, Shannon, Dakota, Kelly, Matthaeus, Matthew, Patrick, Isabelle, Konnor, Jack and Keira and great grands, Jackson, Preston, Kate and Rowan. Also survived by his nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was truly “Head of the Clan” because his family always came first. He will be missed by his coffee buddies at Caffe Caffe, and the many friends he made at St. Benilde’s Chers Amis, Grandparent’s Club and the Men’s Club plus his Coaching buddies. You know who you are!!!!
Don was a graduate of De La Salle High School and earned his B.S. in Secondary education from Loyola University. While at Loyola, he joined SAK fraternity and remained friends with many of its members. He earned a Master’s in Administration and Counseling from East Texas State.
He coached and / or taught at St. Pius X School, Christian Brothers School, Ridgewood Prep, Catholic High of New Iberia, Christian Brothers, St. John Prep, Holy Cross, Delgado and Dominican College before returning to Christian Brother School. He loved the Christian Brothers and had a hard time retiring in 2006. He was recently honored by the Christian Brothers Alumni Association with the St. Benilde Award for his service and dedication to CBS.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at St. Benilde Church, 1901 Division, Metairie, La. At 11:30am. Visitation at the church from 9:00am until Mass time. Interment will be private. Arrangements by Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tn. 38105 or charity of your choice.
