Dorothy is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 53 years, Honorable Walter James Rothschild; parents Joseph Charles Bolton and Verus Cohen Bolton. She is survived by her daughters Pamela Rothschild Braedt (Gary) and Melissa Rothschild Overstreet (Kermit); grandsons Jacob (Jake) W. Rothschild, Joshua Rothschild Bryson; her sister Verus Bolton Pearson as well as many relatives and friends.
Dorothy was a graduate of St. Dominic Grammar School, Mt. Carmel Academy and Charity School of Nursing.
She spent 25 years as an emergency room nurse at Ochsner as well as five years as a nurse for a cardiology group at East Jefferson General Hospital.
Dorothy was perhaps best known for her proficiency and joy in the role of caretaker/caregiver for family, friends, and anyone who needed her. Her loving and devoted friends were a mainstay in her life and provided invaluable assistance to her family in giving her loving care in her final year.
Dorothy was also survived by her “mercy sisters” and her lifelong sister bond with the nine other “girls” who met as early as second grade at St. Dominic. The beloved parish priest there, Fr. Brendan McMullen O.P., wisely appointed ten eighth grade girls to serve as “the money counters” for the church. These “girls” happily performed this duty every Sunday until they graduated from Mt. Carmel Academy and remained closer than sisters from then on. As one of them, her dear friend of 67 years, Judy L. Martin so beautifully reflected, “Dorothy’s humility, concern, non-judgmental nature, long-suffering and motherly virtues have been the hallmark of her life.”
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Mass in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 12:00pm. Visitation will begin at 10:00am. Interment will follow at St. Patrick No. 1.
For those so desiring donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association, www.diabetes.org or Mt. Carmel Academy.
