Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home & Cemeteries

Dorothy “Dottie” Christine Stansbury, 80, died on Feb. 7, 2026 in New Orleans, LA, after a long battle with heart disease.

Dottie was born on March 26, 1945 in Macon, GA, to William C. and Margaret Churchwell. She was one of 10 children. She grew up in Macon and was raised in the Baptist Church.

She married Ronald “Ronnie” Edward Stansbury, the love of her life, on March 28, 1963. They were married for 62 years.

During the early years of their marriage, they lived in London, England, where Ronnie was stationed by the U.S. Air Force. It was during that time the young couple fell in love with all things British, and they developed interests that lasted throughout their marriage. She loved gardening, watching news on the BBC, watching British mystery shows and reading those books. She loved her tea and scones.

During her career she was very successful in international sales. She and Ronnie traveled throughout the world, and Dottie enjoyed telling stories about those rich experiences. During her sales career the couple lived briefly in Jacksonville, FL, and Frisco, TX. Most of their years were spent in their home in Metairie, LA.

Dottie was a very caring woman, and she taught those values to her children. Her honesty was admired. It was once said that if she found a large sum of money on the street she would probably go door to door throughout the neighborhood looking for the owner.

She is survived by her husband and their three children and their spouses and significant others: Vicki Dunn (Brad), Susan Barnes (Jim) and Danny Stansbury (Crystal).

Dottie is survived by eight grandchildren: Kaitlyn Dunn (Dakota), Kelsey Ballenger (John), RJ Dunn (Heather), Cheyanne Delo (Matt), Storm Wallen (RJ), Tyler Dunn (Krystyn), Grace Sutherland (Sam) and Ocean Stansbury.

She had five great grandchildren: Bryan, Lilly, Isabelle, Leo and Arden.

She is survived by two brothers: Jim Churchwell (Barbara), and Charles Churchwell. Brothers and sisters WC, Donnie Wayne, Peggy, Kenny, Buddy, Ricky and Rusty, died earlier.

Dottie and Ronnie cherished many friends, among them Ronnie and Cathy Lusco, Anna Galassi, and Madaline and Andy Anderson.

And they cherished their many cats. The cats brought them great joy.

Services will be held later this spring when Dottie's ashes will be spread in the Caribbean Sea off the island of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands, her favorite place to visit.

Her favorite song was "What a Difference a Day Makes" by Dinah Washington. That title says everything about Dottie's attitude toward life. Every day was to be cherished and celebrated.
