

Frank Adams Riddick, Jr., M.D., was the Chief Executive Officer Emeritus of Ochsner Health System. He spent his entire professional career in the Ochsner Institutions, beginning in 1961. He was the head of the Section of Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases of the Department of Medicine. He was the Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Ochsner Clinic from 1975 through 1992 and served as CEO of the Alton Ochsner Medical Foundation from 1990 until merger of the separate entities into Ochsner Clinic Foundation in 2001. He served as CEO Emeritus of Ochsner Health System since that time, consulting with management and assisting the Division of Philanthropy. Over the 26 years of his management roles the Ochsner Institutions were converted from a single site traditional fee- for-service specialized center to one offering the full spectrum of services to a broad based population in the southeastern region of Louisiana. Hospital, Clinic and Research facilities on the Jefferson Highway campus grew significantly. The professional staff quintupled in size to about 500 physicians. Some twenty three neighborhood primary care facilities were established in the metropolitan New Orleans area and an eighty-physician regional clinic in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The Ochsner-owned health plan was founded and grew into a federally qualified health maintenance organization with 225,000 subscribers, also offering other managed care products on a state-wide basis. Dr. Riddick held undergraduate and medical degrees from Vanderbilt University. He was a member of Kappa Sigma and Phi Chi medical fraternity. He was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and to Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. His graduate medical education in internal medicine and endocrinology was at the Barnes Hospital-Washington University Complex in St. Louis, Missouri. He attended the Program in Health Systems Management at Harvard University Graduate School of Business Administration in 1975. He was Past President of the American College of Physician Executives, American Group Practice Association, and the Society of Medical Administrators. He was a Master of the American College of Physicians, Master of the American College of Endocrinology and Distinguished Fellow of the American College of Physician Executives. He was also a Professor of Clinical Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine. A native of Memphis Tennessee, he and his wife Mary Belle Alston Riddick have three children, Laura Riddick Dufresne (Dr. Raymond George Dufresne) of Barrington RI, Frank Adams Riddick III (Carol Mykolyk Riddick) of Dallas TX and John Alston Riddick MD (Amy Elizabeth Betz Riddick) of Nashville TN and eight grandchildren: David Raymond and Julie Anne Dufresne; Jordan Taylor, John Winston, and Anderson Haines Riddick; Alston Elizabeth, Hollis Sutherland, and John Dixon Riddick Their daughter Marianne Crawford Riddick and his parents Frank Adams Riddick Sr. and Falba Crawford Riddick are deceased. He served on active duty in the U.S. Army Medical Corps 1955-57 with the rank of Captain. He remained active in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1963, achieving the rank of Major. He was active in professional, community and church activities locally and nationally and served on numerous boards. He was a communicant of Trinity Episcopal Church and served on its Vestry. He was a member of Boston Club, New Orleans Country Club and Cosmos Club of Washington D.C. He served on several editorial boards and was author of 27 books and book chapters and 100 articles in peer reviewed medical journals on topics in endocrinology, medical ethics, and health care policy. Honors included: Young Internist Award, American Society of Internal Medicine, 1969; Distinguished Internist Award, American Society of Internal Medicine, 1981; Physician Executive Award, American College of Medical Group Administrators, 1984; Distinguished Alumnus Award, Vanderbilt University School of Medicine, 1988; Community Service Award, Louisiana State Medical Society, 1992; Distinguished Achievement Award, Jefferson Parish Medical Society, 2002; Laureate Award, Louisiana Chapter, American College of Physicians, 1992. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Memorial Service on Monday, November 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Ave., New Orleans. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am until service time. Reception to immediately follow in the Lambeth House auditorium.
