

Dr. Olof H. Lundberg, Jr. (Olie) passed away peacefully visiting family for the holidays on December 28, 2022. He was 80 years of age. He is survived by his wife of 50 years Anna Maria Paone, his sons Derek (Kara Knowles) and Alec (Kallen Forster), his sister Louise Deisseroth (Dr. Albert Deisseroth) of Washington DC, and preceded in death by his son Marc. He was a loving and devoted husband, a wonderful and caring father and a joyful and cherishing grandfather to his four grandchildren, Carter and Mia Lundberg and M. Gunner and Gray Forster. His memory will also be cherished by his in-laws Teppy (Paone) and Dr. Lee Dowdy of Montgomery, Alabama; Antonino Paone; and his nieces and nephews Dr. Kate Deisseroth, Dr. Karl Deisseroth (Dr. Michelle Monje), Dr. Karen Deisseroth Chichon (Jim), and Morgan Dowdy.
Olie was born in Albany, New York and raised in Slingerlands, New York to the late Olof Sr. and Janette Benedict Lundberg on August 14, 1942. Olie moved to New Orleans in 1971 after completing his Ph.D in Management from Pennsylvania State University. He obtained his B.S. in Business from the University of Rochester (1964), and his M.S. from the University of Miami (1967). He joined the Management Department faculty at the University of New Orleans from 1971 till his retirement in 2020. While at the university, he served as Chairman of the Department of Management and Marketing (1978-1981), Chairman of the Department of Management (1993-2014), Senior Associate Dean of the College of Business (2014 until his retirement) and was awarded the Annette Weinberg Bernstein Endowed Chair in University Management (2012 until his retirement). He was awarded the AACSB Federal Faculty Fellow in Washington D.C. from 1974-1975 in affiliation with the Brookings Institute which involved developing a 10 Year Plan for the NASA Administration. Prior to his academic career he was an Auditor for Continental Insurance Company in New York City. He also served as Advisor to the New Orleans Superdome Management Guidelines Committee (1976); developed the long range planning model for Louisiana Region III public school systems (1977); served as a member of the City of New Orleans Cost Control Commission (1986) and Chairman of the Subcommittee on Recreation and Leisure; and was instrumental in the system analysis and computer system selection, purchase and implementation for the Sugar Bowl Commission (1983-1984).
Olie met his wife at the University of New Orleans in 1971 and married in 1973 making New Orleans his home. Raising his three sons was the passion that guided his life. He coached soccer teams that his sons were affiliated with; he attended every school event, soccer game, baseball game, and flag football game for all his sons and grandchildren. He was a gentle, sensitive and loving man. Aside from his family, Olie was passionate about the New York Yankees, Penn State football, New York Times crossword puzzles, chess, the Kingston Trio, Rod McKuen poetry, Irish folk songs, and any game that he played with his grandchildren.
Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life at 10:00 AM on January 21, 2023 at The Homer L. Hitt Alumni and Visitors Center, Geoghegan Ballroom, 2000 Lakeshore Drive, New Orleans, Louisiana 70122. In lieu of flowers, Olie would prefer that a donation be made to the Marc C. Lundberg Scholarship Fund at the University of New Orleans C/O University of New Orleans Foundation, 2021 Lakeshore Drive, New Orleans, Louisiana 70122.
