Mumsie was the name she was called for almost half of her life. Mumsie meant so many things to so many people. It meant love and compassion. It meant a safe and comforting place to stay or visit and it meant someone who would listen and give you advice. Most of all, “Mumsie” meant that you were home, safe and sound, surrounded by family and the warmth of her love. Edna Corine Primm Berner was born to the late Clagett H. Primm and Early Warf Primm in Hickman County, TN on 12/2/1921. Edna was called to eternal life on January 17, 2015. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick W. Berner and her siblings, Fannie R. Luckett, Hollen G. Primm, Robert H. Primm, James S. Primm, Lucy K. Sparkman, Mary Ann Tyler, Pauline G. Cochran, and Emma R. Warf. Edna is survived by her four children; Rose Marie B. Patron, Frederick W. Berner, Jr. (Phyllis), Dennis J. Berner (Connie) and David M. Berner (Maria). She is also survived by her ten loving grandchildren and her 11 great grandchildren. Fred and Edna met in Nashville, TN during WWII, fell in love, and were married there before moving to New Orleans. Her upbringing on a farm in rural Tennessee was a great match for a man who participated in starting a company (Berner’s Heating, Air and Appliances). They truly lived the American dream. He helped run a successful business while she raised their four children and kept a beautiful home. Edna lived her life for her family. We will all miss her fascinating stories about growing up in the Tennessee country, her iced tea, meatballs, oyster dressing, tuna salad, etc. We have comfort in knowing that she is now sharing eternal life in heaven with her loving husband. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. (in Metairie Cemetery) on Thursday, January 22, 2014 at 12:00 Noon. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m. until noon. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park.
