Betty will be remembered for her generosity, humor, loyalty, and selflessness. She was deeply loved by her late husband Jimmy, her family, and the many friends and neighbors she considered family. To her 15 nieces and nephews, 30 great-nieces and nephews and one great-grand-nephew, she was simply Aunt Betty, and no one else could compare.
Born on September 2, 1946, to Robert Howell Crosby, Jr. and Elizabeth Hendricks Crosby, Betty grew up in DeRidder, Louisiana. She graduated from The Hockaday School in Dallas and later from Louisiana State University (LSU). After college, she married James Joseph Bergin, Jr. and joined the family business, Crosby Land & Resources, where she worked for 46 years before retiring in 2021. Betty and her husband made their home on Suzanne Drive in River Ridge, surrounded by neighbors who became like family. She was a devoted member of the neighborhood Catholic Church, St. Matthew the Apostle, where she regularly attended mass for many years. Betty loved reading, traveling with her husband and family, and spending time with those she cared about. She especially treasured family beach trips to Destin, summers in Aspen with Jimmy, and weekends at the Beau Rivage with friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, her parents, and her sister, Carla Crosby McClelland. She is survived by her sister, Lillian Crosby Maurin, her brother, Robert Howell Crosby, III, and their spouses, James Maurin and Kim Crosby, along with many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.
