Frances Lee DeButts Hidalgo

Born in Avon Park, Florida, raised in Orlando, Florida, moved to New Orleans in 1945, she has lived in Metairie since 1955. She is the Daughter of Daniel Dulany DeButts and Elizabeth Hargrave DeButts, Sister of Daniel Dulany DeButts, Jr. and Elizabeth DeButts Stitt, and the wife of John Ulysses Hidalgo (all deceased). Admitted to United States Cadet Nurse Corps in 1945, she graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1948. She was married December 21, 1947 at Sacred Heart Church on Canal Street. She worked as a nurse at Charity Hospital, and at Mercy Hospital in the 1970’s and 80’s. She assisted her husband in his work as a medical scientist, and with him became a world traveler. She is mother to John Ulysses Hidalgo, Jr., Stephen Paul Hidalgo, and Alice Hidalgo Marks, grandmother to Bridget Farrington New and Jennifer Nicole Marks Riedy, and great-Grandmother to Elloise Elizabeth Danielson. Family members live in Metairie, Louisiana, Springfield, Oregon, and Los Angeles, California. Visitation on Monday, August 27, 6 to 8 p.m. at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. in New Orleans, funeral mass on Tuesday, August 28, 10 a.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 4921 West Metairie Avenue in Metairie. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
