A New Orleans native, Clancy was born to Eunice Clancy Dupépé and Vernon Wilfred Dupépé at Baptist Hospital on March 6, 1934. Clancy’s fondest memories were of his days at Jesuit High School where he served as Student Council Vice-President and was famously known for his football and track accomplishments. He attended Tulane University and was a member of the Alpha Tau Omega and Delta Theta Phi fraternities. After Tulane, Clancy was commissioned a Second Lieutenant upon completing Officers Candidate School and served with the Marines, where he had multiple deployments, including with the air squadron on the USS Forestall. After an honorable discharge, Clancy went on to get his Juris Doctor from Loyola University New Orleans and taught law after his graduation.
Clancy then expanded his growth into real estate and business developments, which included the Hotel Provincial, New Orleans Marriott, De La Post Hotel, LA Boucherie, Le Bar and The Pier House in Key West, Florida. He served as President of the New Orleans Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, the President of the French Market Corporation, and President of the New Orleans Historic Commission where he hosted the New Orleans Bicentennial dinner for the President of France and the Governor of Louisiana at the White House in Washington D.C.
A frequent world traveler, with a special love for Paris, Clancy had a passion for Louisiana and French antique furniture. He was one of the first collectors of such antiques in the early 1960’s and was featured in a number of books, magazines, and catalogs highlighting his collections. Clancy’s passion for antique furniture complemented his love for historic home and building restorations throughout New Orleans.
He was a life-long member of his favorite carnival club Rex, a charter member of the carnival club Bacchus, the Bienville Club, and the Chelsea Arts Club in London and New York.
Clancy is survived by his brother Bryan Dupépé Sr. (Patricia), sister Verna Dupépé Devlin (James), daughters Michele Tanguis Dupépé, Mignon Wattigny Dupépé (John Snyder), Andree Nicole Dupépé, sons Frank Clancy Dupépé Jr. (Dr. Esther), Laurent Fautt Dupépé (Erika) and dear friend Kimberly McDonald. He was PaPere to his grandchildren Eleanor “Ellie” Snyder, Nels Snyder, Maizie Snyder, Camille Snyder, Zachary Liuzza, Juliet Liuzza, Taylor Ice, Frank Clancy Dupépé III, Avery Dupépé and Robert Dupépé.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of his life at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Friday, July 27, 2018. Visitation will begin at 11:00am followed by a Funeral mass at 1:00pm and then burial in Metairie Cemetery.
