Frank was the devoted husband of the late Mary Catherine Youngblood Hammant for 62 years. He was preceded in death by his parents Frank Joseph Hammant and Gladys Bertrand Hammant and his brothers Bertrand and Rockey Hammant. Frank was a wonderful father to his four children Frank J. Hammant III (Kimberly), Michael K. Hammant (Stacey), Maryann Hammant Rooney (Pat), and Stacey Hammant Wickersham (Jeff). He was a loving Paw Paw to his ten grandchildren Ryan (Sarah), Mallory (Robert), Hillary (Hunter), Kristin, Tiffany (Adam), Ashleigh (Matt), Patrick, Shelby, Kyle, and Lindsey, and his ten great grandchildren.
Frank was born on July 27, 1939 in New Orleans and grew up in Bucktown. He graduated from East Jefferson High School and served in the Air Force Reserve. Frank was a self-made successful businessman. His journey started working at Standard Supply Hardware each day, while driving a Jefferson Parish school bus every morning and afternoon until he was hired as an outside sales representative for Southern States Construction. In 1970, Frank founded Mayer-Hammant Equipment, Inc. He built Mayer-Hammant into a very successful construction equipment rental company, until he sold his business in 1999.
Frank had a love to be on the water; he enjoyed fishing and shrimping on his boat, “Proud Mary.” He found so much joy in having a place on the water (Slidell and then Pass Christian) where he loved to have his family together and see them enjoying the water as much as he did, swimming, boating, fishing, and riding jet skis. Every weekend felt like a vacation at “the camp”. Frank will forever be remembered for his genuine smile, kindness and generosity, the stories he shared and his tours of Bucktown.
