

George W. Kearney died on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at 6:00 A.M. He was 97 years old. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Mary Ellen Frolich Kearney, his parents Thomas and Catherine Kearney, and his siblings John Thomas Kearney, Ethel Kearney Mock, and Bernice Kearney Cohen. He is survived by his children, Kathleen Kearney Erny (Paul) and Thomas Joseph Kearney (Babs) and his granddaughters Eirinn Elizabeth Erny Kozlowski, Katherine Ellen Erny Gaar, Genevieve Elise Erny Maul, Mary Elizabeth Kearney Provosty, Kelsey Ann Kearney Bryant, and Courtney Sarah Kearney. His great-grandchildren are Elise and Jack Gaar, Emma and Thomas Kozlowski, Alistair Maul, Ian and Reese Provosty, and Gavin and Andrew Bryant. At the age of 19, George was employed by Higgins Industries which was instrumental in the design and production of the now infamous landing crafts used in the D Day invasion of France. By 23 years old, he was in charge of the department providing all the wooden parts for the construction of the landing crafts. He worked at Higgins Industries for 20 years. The next 21 years he was a faculty member at Delgado Community College where he taught cabinet making. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the funeral services at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA on Monday, January 25, 2016 at 11:00 AM.
