Gilbert Thomas White

Gilbert Thomas White entered his eternal rest on Friday, August 12, 2016 at the age of 82. He leaves behind his devoted wife of nearly 59 years, Marian Loria White. He was a loving father to his six children; Mark White (Debbie Alford), Donna W. Raspanti (Joseph), Thomas "Tommy" White (Angie), Linda W. Draper (Doug), Lori W. Seals (Eric) and Christine White. Grandfather of Philip (Kristin) and Michael Raspanti, Megan, Amanda and Ally Seals and Anna White. He is survived by two brothers; Paul T. White and Edwin A White. Gilbert was born on March 30, 1934 to Ethel and Aloysius White. He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings; Shirley W. Saacks, Ethel W. Joerger, Carol W. Chiasson and David J. White. A lifetime New Orleans native, Gil graduated from Jesuit High School and received his mechanical engineering degree from LSU. After college, Gilbert was employed for several years with Esso and in 1973 started his own real estate company, White Properties, Inc. where he worked for the rest of his career employing many of his siblings and children along the way. Always passionate about golf, Gilbert was a Retired Emeritus Member of the Fore!Kids Foundation and former executive committee member of that organization which runs the PGA tournament currently sponsored by Zurich Insurance. Gil was also formerly a member of the Board of Directors for Metairie Country Club, and a devoted Elder of Fellowship Bible Church. Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Service in the Chapel of Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., on Monday, August 22, 2016 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 11:00AM until service time. Interment will follow in Lake Lawn Park Mausoleum.
