The son of a farmer, Mr. Sohi was born on July 15, 1933 in Punjab, India. He was a graduate of Punjab University, having earned a bachelor’s degree.
A lifelong educator, Mr. Sohi served as a district sports officer in Punjab, India for many years after which he taught at many schools, dedicating himself to his students in India and Africa.
In May 1961, he married Harbans Kaur and together they had two sons and a daughter.
He instilled in his children the importance of serving others, tenets his family exhibit as business and civic leaders, who are recognized not only in the Greater New Orleans area but throughout Louisiana.
Mr. Sohi had a love for poetry and his wife’s cooking. He was an avid gardener, a pastime that was rooted in his family’s proud agrarian heritage.
Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018 at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, at 9 a.m., followed by a service at 10 a.m. A cremation will follow at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Ochsner Excellence Fund.
