Helen Lenore Glynn Gioe, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and the heart of her family, passed away peacefully on March 29, 2026. She was born on June 27, 1944, in New Orleans, Louisiana. While in high school, Helen met the love of her life, Ronald Paul Gioe, Sr., and they shared 61 years of marriage. Together, they made their home in Chalmette, Louisiana, and later relocated to Gretna, Louisiana, following Hurricane Katrina.
Helen’s greatest accomplishments in life were her roles as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. In her early years, she dedicated herself to her family as a homemaker and volunteered at her children’s school, St. Mark’s. After her children were grown, she worked for many years as an Administrative Assistant at Ives Company. She later attended Tulane University and became a paralegal, working for Walter Leger.
When her grandchildren began to arrive, Helen earned the cherished name “Honey.” She loved spending time with them, and the feeling was mutual—they all adored their Honey.
Talented, generous, compassionate, and caring, Helen had a deep love for her family. She enjoyed hosting holiday dinners, Christmas parties, and crawfish boils. She was also a gifted seamstress who found great joy in sewing.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Helen Duthu Glynn. She is survived by her beloved husband, Ronald, daughter and son-in-law, Tracie Gioe Garner and Jim Garner, sons and daughters-in-law, Ronald and Cheri Gioe, and Shawn and Tisa Gioe, grandchildren, Emily and Eric Gioe, Ethan, Caitlin, and Margaret Garner, and Caiden, Brock, and Wriley Gioe, and her twin brothers, Ronald and Robert Glynn.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. New Orleans, LA. Visitation will be held from 10 AM – 11 AM with a memorial Mass to begin at 11 AM.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Helen’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org/donate.
