Jacqueline Pearl Strauss Ames, May 9, 1935- March 6, 2026, age 90, passed away after a lengthy illness. She was born in New Orleans to Edith and Alvin Strauss. She was the wife of the late Dr. Beryl David Ames. She had a sister, Shirley Caron and a brother, Donald Strauss, who preceded her death. Jacqueline had been married for 69 years. She met her future husband in high school. After they started dating, they were inseparable. She graduated from Isadore Newman School and got married after graduation. She was active in her synagogue and sang in the choir. She also sang for the residents at Willow Wood Senior Living and received an award. She loved exercise including tennis, jogging and bike riding. She was active at Touro Fitness Health Club. She is survived by her children Stephen Ames and Ellen Ames Meltzer and her grandchildren: Grace Stieber, Rachel Fayman, Robert Ames, Samuel Ames, Wes Meltzer, Ryan Meltzer, and Chloe Meltzer. She had 10 grandchildren: Audrey, Emma, Elijah, Harper, Levon, Jack, Gabriel, Leo, Sadie and Miriam. The family would like to give special thanks to Sage Lake Senior Living and Rabbi Bauman. A private service will be held at Chevra Thilim Cemetery.
