Jacqueline Blancq Bruneau, a Native of New Orleans passed away in Baton Rouge on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at the age of 87. Loving mother of Dr. Pierre Bruneau (Yelena), and Arianne Zaunbrecher (the late Richard) and grandmother of William J. Zaunbrecher, Alexandre Bruneau, and Michel Bruneau. Preceded in death by her parents, Charles Clement Blancq, Jr. and Adine Mahony Blancq, and her brother Charles Clement Blancq, III (Vendula).
Jackie, as she was known to her friends and family, was a strong, independent woman who graduated from Charity School of Nursing in 1951 and went on to have a 40-year career as a Nurse Anesthetist, while raising her two children on her own. She cherished her family and friends and hosted numerous parties, for her friends and her children’s friends. She was a fantastic cook and made a mean margarita. Weekends were filled with friends, swimming in the pool, and food on the grill. She was especially fond of her brother Charlie who frequently visited several times a week. Our childhood was filled with numerous ski trips to Colorado, outings to Pontchartrain Beach and dining out at Bart’s and the New Orleans Country Club. She also enjoyed many trips with her children, including several trips to New York and San Diego, as well as trips to Japan, Alaska, Canada and the Netherlands. In her later years she was blessed to become a grandmother for the first time to William at the age of 75, followed by Sasha and Misha in later years.
Although she suffered with dementia for the past six years, she still recognized her family and would light up when she would see them. We are grateful for the compassionate care our mother received from the nursing staff at Flannery Oaks Guest House and Lifesource Hospice in Baton Rouge.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Memorial Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 1:00 PM. Visitation will begin at 11 AM. Interment will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery #2.
