

Dr. James L. Lloyd, 79, died on April 23, 2025, at his residence in Peachtree City, Georgia. James was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 30, 1945. He was the son of Leroy Lloyd, Jr. and Mary Burns Lloyd, and the grandson of Leroy Lloyd, Sr. and Lucy Brown Lloyd. James, affectionately referred to as “Butch” by his family, was the oldest of four children.
He graduated from Xavier University Preparatory School. He received his Bachelor’s of Arts degree and Master’s of Arts degree from Xavier University of New Orleans. He received his Doctor of Education from Vanderbilt University. He spent his entire career with the Orleans Parish Public School System. He began his career as a teacher, and he held several leadership roles within the School Board, including serving as Executive Director of Quality Control/Compliance, until his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, parents, his aunt, Lucille Lloyd, and his brother, Paul Lloyd.
He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Linda Roberts Lloyd. He is also survived by his sister, Connie Lloyd Walker, brother, Mark Lloyd, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation and a funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 5, 2025, in the chapel at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, New Orleans, LA 70124, with visitation starting at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Lake Lawn Park.
