James "Jimmy" P. Simoneaux departed on Eternal Patrol on Sunday, April 15, 2018, to join his beloved wife Thelma Irma Haney Simoneaux in Eternal Life. They were married for 67 years. He was a native of New Orleans and resided in River Ridge for 66 years. He was the son of the late James and Stephanie "Fannie" Gauthé Simoneaux. He is survived by his three daughters, Theresa S. Shurte (Paul), Susan S. Tompkins (David), and Diane Simoneaux; and three grandchildren, James, Taylor and Mallory. Sibling of the late Nathan Simoneaux (Audrey), Fannie Simoneaux, and the late Stephen Simoneaux. Brother-in-law of the late Helen H. Bonnett and Marilyn H. Ferrera.
Also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends, and shipmates.
James was a graduate of S.J. Peters High School and Jos. A. Maybin School. He was a WWII Navy Veteran, having served on the USS Spearfish and USS Snook and a member of the Submarine Veterans of WWII (New Orleans/River Region Base) and Submarine Veterans, Inc. (Redfish Base). He was a former employee of Philco Distributors and McDonald Sales and Oreck Corp and founding member of St. Matthew the Apostle Church.
Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd in New Orleans, on Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Visitation will begin at 12:00 noon until service time. Interment will follow in Metairie Cemetery.
