Jane Shober Fox died peacefully on June 15, 2024 at the age of 94, at St. Anna’s, Lambeth House. Born November 22, 1929 in New Orleans to John Bedford Shober and Beatrice Moulton Shober, Jane was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to all. She was married to her beloved Richard Ottley Beaufort Fox for 60 wonderful years.
Jane was active in numerous volunteer organizations including the Junior League of New Orleans, the Garden Study Club, and the Quarante Club and was very proud to be the second Queen of Bruno’s. She enjoyed her book club, playing Rummikub, needlepointing (so many pillows!) and spending time in Perdido Key and Covington. Jane was an avid gardener and loved arranging flowers for the New Orleans Museum of Art as well as for Trinity Episcopal Church. She was a talented painter, and her art continues to be proudly hung in homes of family and friends. Cooking and entertaining were also passions of hers. Thankfully, her cheese straw, ossobuco and deviled egg recipes live on. Throughout their long and happy marriage, Jane and Richard travelled around the world and set an aspirational model for a life well lived.
She was Mom to her three children, Anne, Dickie and John; she was Momee to her grandchildren, Patrick (Kelly), Blathrae (Dario), and Mason (Brie) as well as to her great-grandchildren, Lilah, Margot Jane, Wynne, Reid, her namesake, Jane and to many other close friends who lovingly called her Momee; and she was Jena to her friends.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Episcopal Church on July 26, 2024, at 11:00am.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 1329 Jackson Avenue, New Orleans, LA 70130.
