QDEP. Silvita

As a kid it was a treat to have Chucho show up early on a Sunday morning with a loaf of bread, pastries and ham from Cortiza’s Bakery en el Palo ready for breakfast. Then he would spend the rest of the day hanging out. Those are days I will always remember

I was totally dumbfounded when you told me about Mr. Gonzalez passing away! Everyone is equally shocked to hear the sad news here at the office. I'd just seen him a couple of weeks before he passed and spoke to him for about an hour the very last time I saw him (he brought me a homemade guava paste; crackers and cheese to sample!)

Your dad was certainly a special man. He was not ashamed to talk about the hard work he had done all his life and was very proud of what he had accomplished for his family, especially considering his relatively humble beginnings in Cuba. He'd always have some story to tell me about his younger days and he loved to tell his jokes---many of which he told so fast I wasn't laughing so much at the punch line, but instead at his infectious laughter and near-professional delivery!

If I feel a terrible sense of loss --me who just got to see him a few times each year-- I can't even imagine how you and the rest of your family must be dealing with this. I pray for your dad's soul and for you guys to keep remembering and honoring him with joyful memories instead of focusing on the sadness of his absence. We will all, eventually, be reunited.

2 Timothy 4:7-8
7 I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith. 8 From now on the crown of righteousness awaits me, which the Lord, the just judge, will award to me on that day, and not only to me, but to all who have longed for his appearance.
