Joan Porbes Howard

Joan Porbes-Howard, a professional artist, passed away on May 27,2024 at age 92. Born November 5, 1931, in New Orleans to the late Henry Frank Porbes and Marie Cavani Porbes; she is preceded in death by her brother, Charles H. Porbes and her sister, Nell P. Demoruelle and her husband of 67 years, Robert R. Howard.

She is survived by her son, Steven M. Howard (Cecilia); her daughter, Gwyn H. Catalano (Gary Sr.) and ;her grandchildren, Cory, Gary Jr. (Sadie), Troy Catalano; her great-grandchildren, Joseph, Giovanni, Amaya, Angelo, Madeline and Julianne Catalano; her daughter, Donna H. Moynan (Tripp) and her grandchildren, Rachel and Jill Moynan.

Joan attended Sophie B. Wright High School after which, she worked at D.H. Holmes Department Store creating decorative window displays. She was subsequently employed by South Central Bell (now AT&T) as a drafter in the Engineering Department. Joan attended art classes at the New Orleans Museum of Art and jewelry making classes at Delgado Community College. Her artwork has appeared in various galleries near Ocean Springs, MS.

A visitation for Joan will be held Monday, June 3, 2024 from 10:30 AM to 11:00 AM at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd., New Orleans, LA 70124, followed by a graveside service from 11:00 AM to 11:30 AM.
