

JoAnn Christopher, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and pillar of her community, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at the age of 96. Born on October 1, 1929, in New Orleans, JoAnn grew up with a deep appreciation for family, faith, and the beauty of the natural world. She attended Louise S. McGehee School, where she cultivated the curiosity, grace, and determination that would define her life.
A devoted housewife and master gardener, JoAnn transformed every space she touched with care and creativity. Her passion for gardening blossomed into a lifelong mission of mentorship and community building. In 1958, she founded the Shady Oaks Garden Club in River Ridge, Louisiana—an organization that continues to flourish as a testament to her vision, leadership, and love for nurturing both plants and people.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her first husband, Neil Christopher; her son, Craig Lee Christopher; her daughter, Ann Brown; her sister, Camille Anderson; and her brother, Peter Garza. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her long and meaningful life.
She is survived by her loving husband, Jozsef Toth; her daughters Ronna Christopher, Leonora Hermann, Chris Christopher, Martha Bravo, and Patricia Arteaga; her niece, Johannah Fernandez Anderson; and her many cherished grandchildren, great‑grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Known for her generosity and her instinct to help anyone in need, JoAnn lived her life with quiet strength and an open heart. She leaves behind a legacy rooted in kindness, service, and the belief that even the smallest acts of care can change a life.
Funeral services will be held on January 10, 2026, at Lake Lawn in Metairie. Visitation will take place from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a Mass at 2:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance of a remarkable woman whose presence enriched all who knew her.
