John David Cassanova, lovingly known as Johnny, passed away on February 13, 2026, at the age of 80. Johnny was born on October 14, 1945, in New Orleans, Louisiana to the late Oswald Anthony Cassanova, Sr. and Roberta McCabery Cassanova. He was the loving husband of Pamela Landry Cassanova for 57 years, and a devoted father to Amy Cassanova Tabak (Jonathan), Regina Cassanova-Dupart (Jheri), and Jeanne Cassanova Rachuba (Reggie). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Jacob, Charlie, and Harriet, who brought him immeasurable joy.
Johnny graduated from Fortier High School before continuing his studies at LSUNO, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He went on to receive his Juris Doctor from Tulane Law School, a milestone that marked the beginning of a distinguished legal career. For more than 50 years, he practiced as a sole practitioner, earning respect for his intellect, dedication, and the compassion he showed every client.
Prior to receiving his college degrees, Johnny proudly served in the U.S. Army as a Medical Corpsman and was honorably discharged. His time in the service was a source of deep pride and provided him with the structure and direction that shaped the rest of his life, helping him pursue and achieve the goals that followed.
A lifelong learner and adventurer at heart, he earned his private pilot’s license, a reflection of his curiosity, discipline, and confidence. He was an avid chess player, relished telling jokes, and found joy in conversations and companionship. His sense of humor and perspective on life enabled him to connect with others and grow in his own beliefs.
More than any title he held, Johnny will be remembered for his warmth, wisdom, and humor. His legacy lives on in the laughter he inspired, the guidance he offered, and the gratitude he modeled every day.
A heartfelt thank you is extended to Johnny’s caregivers who have been devoted to him and our family: Becky, Paul, Quan, Harriet H., and KJ.
