John James Downing

John James “Jimmy” Downing passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 26, 2019, at the age of 89. Beloved husband of Maybelle Filippone Downing for 62 years. Father of Patricia Ann Sanderson, James Edward Downing Sr., (Kim), Michael Joseph Downing, (Sandy), & Kathleen Downing Cooper, (Paul). Son of the late Lenora Frisch Downing and Edward Finley Downing Sr. Brother of the late Edward Finley Downing Jr, Arthur Philip Downing, Helen Downing Dominique, and Thelma Downing Lorentz. He was loving grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Mr. Downing retired from the National Weather Service in 1994. Mr. Downing proudly served our country in the US Navy during the Korean War, and retired from the Louisiana Air National Guard as a Senior Master Sergeant in the 122nd Weather Flight. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Relatives, friends, and members of the Louisiana Air National Guard are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at LAKE LAWN METAIRIE FUNERAL HOME, 5100 Pontchartrain Blvd. on Wednesday, January 30, 2019 at 12:00 Noon. Visitation will begin at 10:00AM. Interment at Lake Lawn Park.
