Been thinking about John the last couple of weeks.  He was a great teacher and example for others.  I always appreciated his sense of humor.  

I met John McShane back in 1984 when I went to work as an auditor in the New Orleans office.  He was a man of great character in so many ways.   I've always looked up to him and cherished his friendship.  

Mr. McShane knew Income Tax and knew how to impart his knowledge to others.  During my time at Revenue I was taught  by a man that knew more than I would every forget.  His interactions were a learning experience.  One of the phrases that he used and I will remember forever is "you wit me" and I heard it more than once.  He was a good example for others to follow.  He is missed but will never be forgotten.  Heaven has gained a Good Fella!

John was always a favorite at the Department.  In addition to his friendly and courteous manner, he had an aura of credibility, authority, and confidence.  It's my pleasure and privilege to call him my friend.  

John was the man! Great family man, smart as a tack. Had a great sense of life in all its aspects. He taught me Corporate Income tax...he knew it inside and out.   Respected him and had a few brewskis with him.   Had he been a General I would have followed him into battle.

CONDOLENCES TO JOHN'S FAMILY.  JOHN WAS A REAL GENTLEMAN AND FRIEND.  I WORKED WITH HIM FOR MANY YEARS AT THE REVENUE DAPARTMENT AND STAYED FRIENDLY WITH HIM FOR AWHILE AFTERWARDS. Fresh out of college in 1976, I began working for the Revenue Dept. John was my first supervisor and I worked under him for 5 years before being transferred.  He taught me a lot about auditing and I attribute much of my success to him.

John was smack in the middle of the golden age of the Revenue Dept. and he contributed mightily to it. He left his brand on those he supervised and many went on to be Regional Directors, Audit Managers, Tax Directors, Field Supervisors, a Collector of Revenue and a host of knowledgeable field auditors.

To Paige, Sheri and David-Be proud of your father's professional career. He was quite the star. 

I adored working with McShane. Most of our interaction was over the phone so it was always a great pleasure when he would round the corner into my office when I least expected it. There wasn't a corporate tax detail we couldn't talk into the ground. I extend my condolences to his children and the rest of his family. I had great respect for your father.

I met John when I first began work at LDR's New Orleans office. We met in the elevator lobby on the way to the first of his several retirement parties. John was my mentor and teacher but so much more than that he was my friend. John without a doubt had one of the strongest and real personalities of anybody I ever met. I will always remember that John always seemed to be on a mission to save me from myself. John saw the value in friendship. I will always remember the good times hanging out with a great friend. I will miss him greatly.

My thoughts and prayers go out to your family. 
Mr. McShane and I worked at the DORT together in the 1980's.  In my Human Resources position, I had many interactions with him.  It was always good to have someone like him willing to work well with you and the employees under their supervision.  
May he rest in peace.

John was my mentor for 25 yrs. I learned so much from him at Revenue. We traveled together many times and he made  a great travel companion on those long trips.   He always had great stories.  Though 2005 split us up, I will always have many fond memories.
I will pray for you John, and for your family to  find peace in all this. So long my good friend. Rest in peace. You did well.  May you be joined together with Missy forever in Heaven. 

I worked for and with John for almost 30 years at DOR. And I enjoyed many good times after we both retired. I have very fond memories of both your mom and dad, and shall miss them both very much. Prayers for them and prayers and condolences for your family. 

My cousin (Peggy Miano) and I worked with John McShane for years - he was always a forthright person, never minced words and was dedicated to his family and his work.  He was a man one wanted "on their side" - he would defend to the end his closest friends.  He was without doubt a dedicated husband to "Cissy" and moved heaven and earth in efforts to care for her when needed.  I am so terribly sorry for your loss and you have my deepest condolences,  my thoughts and prayers.  Without doubt, heaven gained a good man.

I worked with your dad at LDR for many years until his retirement. He was truly a mentor to many of us who were in the Field Audit Division.  He was quick to help out those of us who were much younger and less experienced. 
He became a dear friend. We shared a few beers and many laughs!
