He was predeceased by his loving father Albert Mintz, maternal grandparents Walter and Virginia Mae Barnett, as well as paternal grandmother Goldie Mintz Katz.
He is survived by his mother Linda Barnett Mintz, aunt Walda Barnett Besthoff, sister Margaret Mintz Easthope, brother-in-law Thomas Easthope, and nephew and niece Evan and Virginia Easthope. John loved family. He enjoyed being with his large network of Mintz, Barnett and Cooper family members.
John was a man of academic pursuits. He attended Newman School, Carlton College, Tulane and Loyola universities. John was an excellent writer who assisted with his father’s legal practice. He delighted in taking vocal lessons and was fascinated by religious studies. He spoke both Spanish and Norwegian. His keen ear for dialects made him an interesting and humorous storyteller. John had a passion for rescuing animals. He evacuated with five canine companions, when avoiding Hurricane Katrina. John was truly dog’s best friend.
The family gives thanks to the numerous people who were devoted to John: Touro doctors and nurses; executive assistant Patty Peterson; and caregivers Mildred Antione, Velma Banks, John McLaughlin, Rosa Azurdia and Senais Edwards.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial services at Temple Sinai on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Visitation will begin at 11 AM followed by services at 11:30 AM. A reception will follow the services.
