Ya know, I keep going over an over the day we got the call, and going through all the pictures an memories. It just doesn't feel real to me still. I go to the house an expect to walk in with you offering a plate of food or coke. Or just walking in an seeing you an Caiden through the back door window sitting on the swing playing Caiden blowing bubbles or whatever Caiden had been up with you that day. Not a day will go by that I won't think of ,and not a day goes by that I won't remind Caiden of y'all's memories. I  will never have enough thank you's to thank god for allowing Caiden to know what an amazing man you were an for you an him to have such an amazing bond that y'all did. I will miss hearing you laugh an gran telling you " ALRIGHT JOHN " or "Now that enough sugar for you" vanilla wafers will always be a memory with your name on it. Oh paw paw. I am so forever grateful to have known you an to have you as MY PAW PAW. You were mine before anyone else's paw paw an I wish time was never taken from you an I through yrs when I was younger but I am forever grateful to say we got to have the time together that we did. Paw paw me an you "little bull" love you with all our hearts an can't wait til we get to reunite with one another. I love you paw paw an Caiden said that he loves you to. Rest in paradise paw paw.

With a heavy heart, I'm writing a message in your guest book today. I have been dreading doing this because it means goodbye....for now. I know I will see you again but it doesn't make this any easier. I want to say thank you for teaching me to eat vegetable soup with Parmesan cheese (like a true Sicilian), teaching me the quick way to make red gravy and to really appreciate real Jazz like Louis Prima and Sam Butera. I'll never forget going to all those shows with you. And finally to say thank you for treating me and loving me like one of your own kids. And I'll always remember to look out for those **** eating buzzards! 
So for now goodbye but I will see you later.

Pops, You were always there for all of us! What are we going to do without you? You were even there for our friends hunting, fishing and all those snacks you would treat them to. They really did appreciate and love you. I'm sure you saw them at 5-5-5. It was wonderful sitting on your hospital bed, having you read to me. I'm glad you thought of me as your Honey Boy. Glad I made you happy enough to want Baby Dougie. I'll have you in my heart and know you'll be catching some Big Ones. Save some for me! Steve, Honey Boy

I have lost one of the most AMAZING STRONGEST man I have ever known. He was one of the biggest fighters I have ever known. Caiden and you were best friends I'm still at a lost for words for Caiden losing his friend. I will forever love an care for you miss you an have the upmost respect for you ! You were in the army you were a retired fireman you've had a wall fall on you an after all that you had went through you went back to work. I love you so much paw paw. Caiden loves you soo soo soooooo much and will miss you. He was an amazing grandfather to all his grandchildren and amazing with all the family he always put everyone before himself you were truly amazing.I love you paw paw Rest in Paradise paw paw.

As I sit here trying to figure out what to write, I am at a loss for words. How do I even begin to write this. How do you put a lifetime with you in a single letter. There are so many memories and moments etched in my mind that technology cannot begin to explain. The hunting and fishing memories are endless. It's the stories behind the pictures that mean the most. People can see the photos but will never understand the moments within them. And no one will ever understand how much it meant to me to have you as my dad. I go over and over exactly what I want to say and the words become scrambled. But there is one memory that sticks out among most and I want to share it to give people a glimpse into what kind of a father you were. Yes, they have heard, understand and adore you as a man, military soldier and fireman. I want to talk about the father you were. One time you took me rabbit hunting, I sat with you in a hole waiting on them rabbits to pass. You had Steve and Paul and myself with you. We took the journey in the station wagon and piled out into the woods. We sat there and waited  and waited and finally here comes a rabbit. And you do nothing. You sit there and let it wonder by. I never understood why until I got older. Then I got. Your enjoyment was seeing us going through the experience. Your sacrifice was your reward. You sacrificed to see us happy. This is a very small example of the kinds of things you did to teach me how to be a man. These are the memories that you cannot take a picture of. Technology don't keep people alive, memories do.  I could always count on you for anything. You were always there for me. A constant rock of support in my life. I will never understand how you always had the answer, directions and guidance I needed. Now, I sit at night and wait for the phone to ring to talk to you like we always did and the phone won't ring. This is one of the hardest things I have to accept. I wish I could have more time, even one more day. But since God has other plans for now, I will have to wait to see you again. But I will see you again and until then I know you will be watching over me every day. I love you Pops.

The Passing of a Hero

Sunday a New Orleans Hero passed away.
He was a firefighter for many years and saved countless lives and never asked for a thank you, but received many. 
He was a husband, a father, a brother, and uncle.
He risked his life knowing what he did matters. A more brave man I've never met. Even in dark times he managed a smile of assurance that everything would be ok again. 
I see him being greeted by others of his brotherhood with open arms and pats on the back and a welcome home.

There are not enough words to convey what this man meant to the City of New Orleans and it would take many more to tell you what he meant to me.

Mr. John was a wonderful grandfather who was very proud of and involved with Daniel and Eric. He came to most of their games etc. even if it was 30 degrees outside. He was also very proud of Judy who has been a loving and caring mother to Daniel and Eric. He became a friend to me - so much more than a father-in-law. I've always enjoyed spending time with him, conversing with him about current events and music, and exchanging books with him. He always made me feel welcome and comfortable. I will always be grateful to him for the way he loved and cared for all of us.He will truly be missed.
