

John Louis Simpson, Jr. of Mandeville, Louisiana passed away peacefully with his two daughters by his side on Tuesday, October 6, 2020 at the age of 83. He was born May 26,1937 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jennie Livaccari Simpson and his father, John Louis Simpson Sr.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 55 years, Peggy Kenner Simpson and daughters, Courtney Simpson Storey and husband Tim and Stephanie Simpson Lagarde and husband Paul. He is also survived by his grandchildren who were so special to him—Kayleigh Elizabeth Storey, Jacob Paul Lagarde, Alyssa Nicole Storey, Elizabeth Ann Lagarde, Taylor Joseph Storey, and Morgan Ann Storey.
John attended Holy Cross High School and graduated with a degree in Geology from Louisiana State University and remained a football season ticket holder for the past 60 years. Following graduation, he joined the Naval Air Reserve and served active duty in Cuba during the Cuban Crisis. He took an early retirement from Avondale Shipyard where he worked in Production and later served as Assistant Chief Estimator working on Navy contracts. Later, he worked for Shell Oil Company on a contract basis. During his retirement years, he enjoyed working as a substitute teacher at Mandeville Junior High and was given the Substitute of the Year Award. Throughout his years, John was involved in Junior Achievement, was an avid runner who ran in the Crescent City Classic and several marathons, and was a long time donor at the East Jefferson General Hospital Blood Bank donating over 80 gallons of platelets throughout the years. For many years, he enjoyed playing golf at Colonial Country Club and later at Tchefuncta Country Club in Covington. He served as president of the Hunter’s Glen Homeowners Association. John was a devout Catholic who attended St. Patrick’s Church in New Orleans for over 25 years and was a member of the Faith and Fun group at Our Lady of the Lake Church in Mandeville.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Friday, October 16th at St. Clement of Rome Church (4317 Richland Ave) in Metairie. Mass will follow at 1:00pm.
