

Joseph Walker Sullivan, Jr., beloved husband of Martha Lyle Lockett Sullivan, passed away at home on Friday, Sept. 5, 2014, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born on Jan. 5, 1934, and lived his entire life in New Orleans. He was the son of the late Joseph Walker Sullivan and Anita Keenan Sullivan. Walker is survived by his son Gordon Keenan Sullivan; his daughter Ainslee Sullivan Wittig and her fiancé, Steven Lee Bull; his grandchildren, Andrew Joseph Wittig, Joshua Clayton Wittig, Abby Lee Bull and Steve’s son Zachary Steven Bull; his sister Caroline Brownlee Sullivan Chiocchio and her husband Oddino Stanley Chiocchio; his niece Katherine Brownlee Chiocchio Niemczuk (Jack); their children Mallory and Ryan; and his nephew Thomas Stanley Chiocchio. Walker’s brother-in-law, Andrew Moore “Bud” Lockett, III, predeceased him in 1983, but he is survived by Buddy’s widow Lucille Levee Lockett Stone (Jack) and their children, Margaret Marian L. Sundre (Rick), Carolyn Lee L. Kempkes (Rod), Lyle Suzanne L. Oberto (Joe) and David Allen Lockett (Debbie) and all of their adored children. He is also survived by many relatives on both sides in the Sullivan, Keenan and Lockett families.
Walker was graduated from Isidore Newman School and Tulane University with a BS and MS in Civil Engineering. He worked for several consulting engineering companies for many years, retired from Entergy, Inc.’s Transmission Dept. in 2000, and continued consulting for them until 2006. During his career and in retirement he was a member of the Sons of the Revolution, the Pickwick and Stratford clubs and several Carnival organizations. He was also member of the New Orleans Lawn Tennis Club and the New Orleans Country Club, having been an avid tennis player and golfer until very recently. Walker and Lyle enjoyed spending time every year in Arizona with their daughter and grandchildren and also in North Carolina each fall.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ronald Swartz, Dr. Scott Sonnier, Dr. Richard Deichmann and their staffs for their many years of care, support and kindness.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service in the Chapel of Trinity Episcopal Church at noon on Thursday, Sept. 11, with visitation in the Board Room from 10:00-12:00. A reception will follow in the Parish House next to the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church or the charity of your choice. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
