Dear Karen and Girls,

I was very saddened to learn from Matt that his Uncle Joe had passed away. He was a wonderful man.

I first met your husband and father when my late sister became engaged to Joe’s older brother. My late husband, Chris, and my entire family and I immediately liked him - he was such a warm and personable guy, and made us feel so welcome as our familes became one. We stood up for them when they married and became godparents to their first born, Matthew Edward. 

I was so tempted at Matt and Hannah’s wedding to ask Joe if he wanted to join me in a special toast to the couple as his godparents, but I was too shy. He was a first class stand up guy and devoted son, father, and faithful and loving husband. 

One of my favorite memories was getting together with you and Joe in New Orleans while Chris and I honeymooned there in October, 1990. You both were so kind to pick us up at our hotel in the French Quarter to take us to the best place in town for BBQ shrimp, which is one of the most delicious meals I have ever had. 

I know what it’s like to lose someone as precious as Joe. It won’t be easy, by any stretch, and will take some time. But you will find over time that all the fond memories will eventually replace the tears and the sadness will dissipate in favor of joy that this man was yours for over 35 years. May that sustain you all.

Eugenia joins me in expressing our thoughts and prayers are with you and your beautiful daughters. Joe was always an inspiration, a true ray of sunshine, whenever I saw him at the CBC office. We were blessed to have him our lives.
I took the liberty of adding Joe's name to those whose passing we pray for at our chapel service every Tuesday here at Lambeth House.

May God bless you and keep Joe in his heavenly kingdom.

Mr Joe was a very good n honest man. Worked with him for almost 23 years. My first time going to the Seaman’s church he asked me if there was one thing I didn’t like on the boats. I said yes sir that’s making a grown man’s bed.I told him what my mom did to us if we didn’t make ours when we was kids n he laughed so hard he had tears in his eyes. The industry as well has is family lost a good man. Sad to hear of his passing. Prayers an condolences to everyone especially his wife n girls who he loved dearly

It was a great experience to work for Joe.  He cared so much about the safety culture on our vessels.  I am thankful for his direction and guidance.  He also never passed up an opportunity to support any of the fundraisers we all brought to the office for our kids.  He will be greatly missed.

My condolences to the Tyson family. Joe was an amazing boss and mentor, and will be greatly missed.

My text to my friend when I learned of his battle with that insidious disease:

Hello Joey T., know that I think of you often. I refer to you to others as a beautiful gentleman I met in my younger years. In my difficult moments of, losing my wife and then my son, I once prayed for my purpose when I had no understanding of the "why" in my life. The response I got was, "Love is everything, and everything is love." I have sinced submitted to that understanding. Love you, Joey T. I will continue to keep you and all of yours in front of my mind and always in prayer. I love you and all of yours always. God bless! 🙂👍🙏
