

Joyce Mae Muscarello Ballard, beloved wife of Burnett Maurice Ballard, and a longtime resident of Kenner, Louisiana peacefully passed away on October 23, 2024, in the comfort of her home. She was surrounded by her dedicated caregivers, dear friends, and her cherished pup, Lucky. Born on April 11, 1938, to Marjorie Evans Muscarello and Anthony Joseph Muscarello, Joyce’s life was enriched by her upbringing in New Orleans, Louisiana where she was surrounded by loving aunts, uncles, and cousins. She had a special connection with her loving cousin, Norma Falco Lacava. Together they shared a friendship that provided comfort and joy throughout Joyce’s life. Norma remained a faithful presence for her, a true example of enduring love.
Joyce attended Warren Easton High School, in New Orleans, where she graduated in 1955. Her involvement with the Sisterhood of Omega Phi was a significant part of her life, developing friendships that would last a lifetime. With her outstanding talent, she was awarded a music scholarship to Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, Louisiana. During her time there, she thrived in the Music Department, participating in recitals and concerts creating memories that would last a forever.
A remarkable woman of faith and devoted Christian, Joyce made a lasting impact at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in New Orleans. For over 30 years, she shared her beautiful voice as a First Alto in the choir, bringing joy to others. Her commitment extended far beyond music; she served selflessly as a Eucharistic Minister, participated actively in the Women’s Bible Study, and contributed her wisdom and care as a Vestry Member. Joyce’s dedication enriched the lives of everyone around her, she was full of love and found pleasure in serving her church family and community. During her time at St. Paul’s, Joyce formed meaningful friendships that became a beautiful and cherished part of her life.
Joyce’s beauty was truly remarkable. Throughout her young adulthood, Joyce committed herself to being a Skincare and Beauty Consultant, a role that not only highlighted her outer beauty but also helped others feel confident in themselves. This dedication ensured that she remained the cherished image of beauty so many fondly remember.
Her final years were spent at home surrounded by warmth and love and gratefully cared for by her devoted neighbors and friends, Pam Gremillion Corcoran and Becky Bernoudy Flad. Their compassion made a profound difference during this time. In addition to their care, several other compassionate caregivers were brought in to ensure Joyce received the highest quality of care. Heartfelt thanks go out to Deanna J Yates, Tammy Molea, Jill Arnoult, and Veronica Brown for their loving dedication. Many thanks also extended to Compasses Hospice for their dedicated care provided over the past several months. A special acknowledgement is also due to Dan, with Cornerstone Caregiving for providing the additional support Joyce needed.
Joyce is preceded in death by her beloved parents Marjorie “Margie” Evans Muscarello, Anthony “Tony” Joseph Muscarello as well as her devoted husband of 37 wonderful years, Burnett Maurice Ballard. She leaves behind cherished memories with her cousin, Norma Falco Lacava, and her dear godchildren, Patti Prosper and Peter Piazza who will hold her close in their hearts always.
A Memorial Service honoring Joyce’s life will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2024 at 10:30 AM, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 6249 Canal Blvd., New Orleans, Louisiana. In lieu of flowers, donations are requested in her loving memory to either St. Paul’s Episcopal Church or Metairie Humane Shelter at 6213 Airline Drive, Metairie, Louisiana 70003. Joyce held both her church community and her love for animals close to her heart as they both brought her immense joy. Her legacy of love and kindness will forever be cherished by the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
