Daughter of the late Sidney and Jeannine (Crassus) Perkins, she is survived by her husband, Joseph John Raviotta, her sons, Jonathan (Wendy) Raviotta, Todd Raviotta, and Benjamin (Sara) Raviotta, and grandson, Dominick Raviotta. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Sidney Perkins, Jr.
Judy was a native New Orleanean, an educator, and artist. In 1968, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Education with certification in mathematics and science from Louisiana State University in New Orleans (now the University of New Orleans). After a seven-year courtship, high school sweethearts Judy and Johnny married on August 3, 1968. Judy’s forty-year career in education gave her the opportunity to share her love of numbers with thousands of students in Louisiana and Virginia, who affectionately called her “Mrs. Rav.” Her true passion was to share her love of astronomy and stargazing with her students and family. She founded the Park View High School extracurricular Astronomy club, which won a prestigious award from the Spaceweek International Association in 2001.
As an avid artist, Judy was known to decorate everything from her car to her hair with her favorite colors: purple, green and gold. She reveled in riding each year as a member of the Mardi Gras Crew, “Cleopatra.” Her other avocations included painting and photography with work ranging from images of the cosmos to family to pet portraits. Her pictures will be treasured by all who were gifted a canvas from her collection or that she documented in her images.
Judy’s greatest accomplishment, however, was her family; she was a patient, supportive, and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved unconditionally, with no sacrifice too great. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
Judy will be honored in New Orleans at Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home on Friday, July 14, 2023. A Funeral Mass will begin at 11:00 am in Lake Lawn Metairie’s Chapel with interment in Metairie Cemetery at the family tomb and a celebration of life reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Judy’s memory to the Cancer Support Community of North Texas, www.cancersupporttexas.org.
