June Lois Drumm Legett, 89, of Covington died March 29, 2018. Born in New Orleans, June 29, 1928, she was the daughter of Claude Eldred Drumm and Lois Johnson Drumm. After graduating from Texas Christian University in 1950 with a degree in education, June married Benjamin Joseph Legett, Jr., D.D.S. and set up housekeeping in their home/dental office on Paris Avenue. After a brief detour to San Diego, CA to serve as a Navy wife, she returned with Ben to New Orleans, the city they loved, having three children before putting her college degree to work teaching at Clifton L. Ganus school. Over the years, June especially enjoyed entertaining friends and family, and world travel. The family moved to Mandeville in 1986. Next to travel and dining at Galatoire's, June loved Mardi Gras.
June was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, C.E. "Sunny" Drumm, Jr. (Daphne). She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Benjamin Joseph Legett, Jr.; and children Benjamin Joseph Legett, III (Robin), David Drumm Legett (Beth), and Kathryn Lois Legett Morris (John B.); grandchildren Stavely Michael (Dan Rosenthal), Christian Michael Legett (Keri), Joshua Chapman Legett (Megan), Stephen Benjamin Hurstell, and Emma Drumm Hurstell.
A Celebration of Life will be held at St. Timothy United Methodist Church, 335 Asbury Drive, Mandeville, LA 70471 on Saturday, April 7th, 2018. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. followed by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Timothy UMC Music Program.
