Kathryn Kramer Neilson passed away on September 16, 2024, after an accident in her home. Born in California on September 15, 1952 and raised in Florence, New Jersey, Kathy graduated from Florence Township High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University. After graduation and working in Burlington County, New Jersey, she met, on a blind date, the love of her life, her husband of 48 years, Bill Neilson, who was working for Chief Counsel, Internal Revenue Service in Philadelphia. Kathy and Bill married and moved to New Orleans where Bill continued to work for Chief Counsel. Kathy pursued her Juris Doctorate degree from Loyola University College of Law and passed the bar. Kathy and Bill have two children, Kristine Constance “Casey” Spaulding (Kyle) and William A. Neilson, Jr “Billy” (“Liz”). Kathy enjoyed nurturing her children and attending all of their sporting and school events, including baseball, softball, school plays, graduations from Jesuit, McGehee, Tennessee, Georgia and Loyola University College of Law where both Casey and Billy received their Juris Doctorate degrees. Kathy relished helping Jesuit High School run its Spring Bazaar for a number of years, working with many other parents and students for many months during the year so the event was a success. Kathy enjoyed taking care of real estate in the early years of marriage, cross-stitch, traveling with the children on family vacations to Bitter End Yacht Club BVI, Jackson Hole, Napa Valley, Park City, Disney World and many other wonderful places. The family has pictures and memories of these trips that will be with them for the rest of their lives. She loved spending time with Bill and her family in their “camp” in Pass Christian, MS. Kathy enjoyed the summer and spring vacations at the beach with her grandchildren, who she adored, Ellie Spaulding, Carter Spaulding and Maisy Neilson, who all affectionately called her GG. Kathy was the daughter of the late Honorable Paul A. Kramer and Constance Kramer. She is survived by her siblings, Paul Kramer (Jackie), Samual Kramer (Betty), Brian Kramer (Trish), David Kramer (Judy), Connie Walker (Doug) and Carol Kramer. Her brother, Frank, predeceased her. Kathy is survived by many nieces and nephews with whom she enjoyed hosting them in New Orleans and attending family events, including a niece’s recent wedding in New Jersey where she was able to enjoy time with her siblings, nieces and nephews the weekend before she passed away.
Services for Kathy will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at Immaculate Conception Church at 130 Baronne Street, New Orleans, Louisiana, at 10:00 a.m. with services being conducted by Fr. Anthony McGinn, S.J. Burial will be private.
